In the last few years, many macroeconomic variables have remained in flux. Most notably, developed and developing economies have been impacted by these changes. Western EU and the USA have seen slower-than-expected GDP growth rates. It appears that this setback to economic activity is due mainly to a range of economic factors, such as global trade tensions being experienced by significant economies in the modern world. Consumers in the Eurozone have experienced increased prices following the euro adoption in certain countries, and these price increases are a cause for concern (especially in the food industry) (Gricar and Bojnec 2012). Price fluctuations in commodities represent the supply and demand of food markets, and if the curve is significantly higher than inflation, then prices may increase. This is speculation because it is impossible to predict how much these prices will change in the future (Bakucs et al. 2012a).

 

Central Banks analyze past inflation and make forecasts to evaluate their impact on future inflation so they can prepare for these risks. They also set the course of action their country would need to take in response. If a particular model is sensitive to changes in the level of inflation, then shocks to it could have long-lasting effects (Borgersen and King 2011). Due to an unclear history of income and inflation, monetary policy effectiveness has been somewhat hard to determine. While something has been happening in the past two decades, empirical evidence on changes in persistence has mainly been elusive (Gricar and Bojnec 2012; Juselius 2002).

 

Hotels and restaurants have been impacted by food inflation more than other sectors. This is because they sell their products based on value for money, typically with high margins. The effects of inflation have been particularly severe for budget segments where margins are low, and prices cannot be raised easily for want of demand.
